Ghost Story

In the hostess foyer of the tavern is a picture of a young Abigail and her mother. Upon closer inspection, you will see that Abigail’s likeness was actually removed from the painting at one point, as it was such a huge disgrace for the family to have a murder in their home, not to mention an adulteress in puritan, colonial New England. The portrait was discovered in the attic and the cut-out portion was found in the basement during a remodel in 1973. Many employees and guests believe that the ghost is a small boy because of childlike things that occur. Multiple employees can attest to being called by name in a familiar voice but turn around to realize that there is no one there. Several closing managers have

 

told of someone or something playing with the lights and music, or of leaving the dark building only to realize as they pull out of the parking lot that all the lights are back on. Opening managers have come in the morning to find furniture stacked up or rearranged. One opening manager arrived to find one of the oak Hitchcock chairs smashed to pieces in the middle of the dining room. This was more than enough proof of the supernatural activity, because no mortal could have done that to an indestructible Hitchcock chair. Most of this activity occurs when the moon is full and it is late at night or early in the morning. It appears that some people are more sensitive to paranormal activity than others, and we have had customers relate numerous experiences.
